Finallz blue skies! My feet said GO so off I went. I was resigned to the idea of some nasty traffic until I cleared the metropolitan area, but was pleasantly surprised to stumble upon a bike trail. Panier-toting cyclists are always a dead give away that you`re onto a good thing. I lucked into the northern Trans-Danubian trail that just goes and goes. It takes you along for a ride according to the whims of the not so blue - more like industrial brown - Danube. Inclement weather had clearly left a mark as sand bags lined its silt-covered shores in Brat and the river breached its banks along the trail.
I stuck with the Trans-Danubian for a solid 20 km then headed for country roads. It was in Rejke that I crossed over into Hungary. No crazy fanfare, just an old rusty sign welcoming visitors. Love this open border concept, it is soooooo civilized.
28 or so km into mz daz, I was ready to call it. Found myself a comfy field, set up a tarp for the inevitable rain and settled in. It was a good day.
