Only in this case, it was a deluge. The McGyver trick I pulled with the tarp only lasted so long, particularlz with the wind whipping up. Luckily, it let up after a few hours. Then there were the mozzies. Then the dog. The the condensation raining down on my head and sleeping bag. Clearly not my finest hour.
Another cooker of a daz. Someone cranked up the thermostat. It was alreadz 30C in the shade by 9 am. No kidding. These hiking conditions will take some getting used to.
The heat marked only the beginning of a trying day in which mz bank-visa card had a hissy fit. 3 towns, several banks and many phone calls later, I was a few days away from being liquid again. The moral of this story is when it comes to banks, leave nothing to chance.
Having landed in a lovely 17th C town, I`m already off to a good start. The historic town of Mosonmagzarovar is too lovely for the butchering its name took at my hands: motion-my-java-rocks-and-it`s-gone-too-far-for-me-to-find-it. Eeeeek. My pronounciation wasn`t even close. Having to resort to pointing on a map was an embarassment that I am typically spared in foreign countries. Could be that when it comes to slavic languages, I have met my Waterloo.
