Entropy: a numerical measure of the uncertainty of an outcome

Mon amie Julia and I went out strolling through lovely Prague, setting our sights on the DOX Centre where a special exhibit of David Cerny's art was on display, including the ever-controversial Entropa. This is a sculpture commissioned by the Czech Republic to celebrate its presidency in the EU. Originally meant to be jointly designed by 27 artists from all members of the EU, Cerny created a satirial and controversial work depicting pointed stereotypes of European nations and fake artist profiles complete with invented descriptions of their supposed contributions. It was shipped off for its official Jan 09 unveiling without any officials bothering to vet it so you can imagine the reception it received in Brussels where they put up with it for a meagre 10 days. Heads no doubt rolled for that...

  1. Oh cool, I remember when this came out in the media and loved it. I didn't get every reference but then I am not European. It did cause a stir but as a Canadian we are used to political type satire like this so I thought it was great.
